MTN Support Govt With Over Ghc100m To Fight Convid-19

MTN Ghana has committed over Ghc100m to complement government's efforts in fighting the deadly Covid-19 pandemic in the country.

The telecommunication giant donated Ghc5million worth of PPEs to frontline health and donation of digital equipment to Noguchi memorial worth Ghc42,000 to help fight the deadly pandemic.

Mr Sam Koranteng, corporate service executive for the MTN-Ghana reveals this at the virtual editors’ forum held for the northern sector.

The forum, which brought together editors from Ashanti, Bono, Ahafo, and the three northern region aims at briefing the journalist on the progress of the company, on a single virtual platform.

Mr Koranteng noted, MTN offers free access to over 200 educational websites, to help equipped students from studying whiles at homes in this covid-19 times.

He said, 45 buses were arranged for frontline staff transportation, Ghc320,000 was raised from 260 plus staff to support the fight.

According to him, 4.5m customers also consume over 150 terabytes of data during the season.

He indicated that the MTN yellow Hope MoMo package offered various reliefs to support customers as a result of the pandemic.

This package included on-boarding of new customers using GSM KYC under minimum wallet, expanded limit on transaction, withdrawal of 12.5 percent penalty fee on default, general fraud education to mitigate its impact and increases adoption of digital transactions.

“Our MoMo service continues to focus on building a comprehensive portfolio for all financial inclusion needs,” he added.

This includes digitising merchant payment, digitising various values chains, ease of integrated, expanded partnerships and customer confidence.

On his part, the Mr Charles Osei Akoto, head of S.B.U for Northern sector says the company has made diverse improvement by adding sites to the existing ones.

The northern region for example received additional 16 sites to improve internet connectivity.

He hinted that the pandemic has also affected the rollout of the company policy.

Also, fibre cut, according to Mr Akoto remains a challenge.

He explained that it was due to some construction projects embark by various agencies.
