MTN Ghana has stressed its readiness to terminate contracts with Mobile Money (MoMo) agents who create fake cash in transactions to earn undeserved commissions. “This behaviour is very bad and has the potential to destroy the business we have all worked hard to build,” Eli Hini, General Manager for MTN Mobile Money, has said.
“Fraudsters keep revising their strategies as we continue to intensify our education and enhance our internal process. In all of this, the three golden rules serve as our weapon in the fight: do not disclose your pin, do not let others transact on your behalf and do not discuss your wallet with any stranger,” he pointed out.
He urged all partners and customers to remain vigilant in the fight against fraud.
Mr. Hini was speaking at the annual awards ceremony for Momo Agents and Merchants in the Western and Central Regions. He explained that the selection of the award winners was based on volume of transactions, value of transactions and adherence to laid down rules and regulations.
A total of 60 agents, 50 merchants and 10 mobile agents were presented with their prizes. The grand prize of an SUV 4X4 Toyota Rush was presented to the ultimate winner. A special award was also presented to the best performing distributor for South West Business District.
Action Ventures at Nkroful Junction, a suburb in Takoradi emerged the overall best MTN MoMo Agent in the South-West Business District of Ghana.
Prince Owusu-Nyarko, Snr. Manager, South West Business Districts of MTN expressed gratitude to agents towards the growth of MoMo in the country. He congratulated the award recipients and urged them to keep safe and wear their face masks.
