Work with Telco Chamber, NCA to ensure 4G national coverage - Veep to Communications Ministry

The Vice-President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has instructed the Ministry of Communications and Digitalization to work closely with the Ghana Chamber of Telecommunications and the National Communication Authority to ensure a complete National coverage of the 4G network in the country.

In his address read on his behalf by his Executive Secretary, Dr. Augustine Blay, the Vice-President also called on the Ministry of Communications to speed up it's efforts towards providing a 5G road map for the country adding that, it's about time Ghana and Africa embraced the imminent introduction of 5G network into the local markets.

Fifth-generation wireless (5G) is the latest iteration of cellular technology, engineered to greatly increase the speed and responsiveness of wireless networks.

The 3rd edition of the Mobile Technology was on the theme; Driving Digital Financial Inclusion in the real economy.

"I will urge the Ministry of Communication to work with the NCA and members of the Ghana Chamber of Telecommunications to ensure we have complete national coverage of 4G network in every nook and cranny of the country... and speed up work on the 5G road map for the country. 5G in Ghana and for that matter Africa is a matter of when not if." Dr. Augustine Blay said.

Dr. Augustine Blay further assured of Government's commitment towards creating an enabling environment to attract the necessary investments and to facilitate the right use of the 5G network.

"As a Government we will to ensure an enabling environment to ensure that there's a congenial environment to attract necessary investments and facilitate the right use case of 5G."


Mobile Technology for Development is an event that provides the platform for stakeholders within the financial, technology and development sector to converge at a single location to share ideas, exhibit solutions and take stock of innovations in payments, deposit, credit, remittance and insurance, and build partnerships for enhanced effort towards financial inclusion in Ghana.

Through the insights and perspectives shared policy ideas will be formulated to influence policies on financial inclusion.
